Knitted with Crochet Interlocking Filet Crochet Set
Knitting is not crochet … or is it?! This may look like a giant chunky “knitted” afghan, but it’s not … it’s crochet! It takes seven rows of interlocking filet crochet to create one “row of knitting.” The Knitted with Crochet afghan has a gingham-style design in the center made up of stockinette, garter and seed stitch patterns, with a K1P1 ribbing at each end. The afghan is super-sized so everyone can snuggle up together on the sofa for movie night! Don’t forget the popcorn!
Coordinating Stockinette and Garter Stitch pillows, complete with a bobble-stitch border and buttons at the bottom to add a pillow form, as well as a shortened version of the afghan, are also included in the pattern set.
This pattern provides both row-by-row written instructions as well as design charts for reference. Since it contains many diagonals to create the design, it is recommended for someone who is comfortable with the interlocking filet mesh technique. In addition to typical interlocking filet crochet, and the use of diagonals, several specialized stitches have been designed to create a three-dimensional look. The use of two different hook sizes also enhances the three-dimensional effect.
Materials:
- DK weight yarn was used for all models: a light solid color was used for the main (background) color to create the “knitting” stitches; a self-striping yarn was used for the contrasting (design) color to define the area “between” the stitches.
- Size 5/0 (3.00 mm) and 7.5/0 (4.50 mm) crochet hooks are both needed.
- Stitch markers are recommended to keep track of your progress.
- 16″ square pillow form and four 1/2″ round buttons are needed for each pillow.
Finished Sizes:
- Super-Size Afghan: 95″ long x 67″ wide
- Shortened Afghan: 75″ long x 67″ wide
- Stockinette Pillow: 17″ square
- Garter Stitch Pillow: 17″ square
- All measurements include bobble border.
